Latest News from San Carlos Elms and Grove

A big group of us had a fun time eating outside on the patio today.  We loved our burgers from In-N-Out. During lunch we had fun sharing stories and taking in the wonderful weather. We even put the tent up to shade us from the sun. Ruth couldn't wait to take a bite out of her burger. Shirley has been looking forward to this. She used a coupon that she won on the slot machine in the Residents Lounge.

This afternoon we enjoyed a cool blast of a root beer float. It was a perfect fit for this afternoon's heat. Residents had fun swapping stories of the last time they indulged in a float, some it was recently, others it was years and years ago. Everyone had a smile one when they were drinking them.  Helen couldn't wait to try a sip. Henry was one big smile. Anne enjoyed hers and meeting new friends. George loved his. Wally did too.

The Mayor of San Carlos, Ron Collins, takes time out of his busy schedule to inform The Elms Residents of all the new ideas coming out of City Hall. Mayor Collins takes questions and concerns by the Residents. It's lovely to live in a city where you are heard by elected officials.  

Here at San Carlos Elm in our Memory Care Program we offer a variety of activities. Below are some that we were able to capture on camera, enjoy! Crafting with Becky, Norine, & Carol. Norine diving into her hot chocolate.   Being pleasantly surprised! Marilyn & Harriet enjoying each others company. Memories in the Making every Wednesday. This past weekend we had a group of 20 children sing and visit with all the Residents.  Jo Ann had a wonderful time. We love having our volunteers come in and help out in activities.   The Residents also enjoy live entertainment weekly. This week we had Moonglow.

Thanks to The Elms remodel of The Activity Rooms about five years ago we have a wonderful time playing Bingo, spread out through two rooms and use of two television sets as Bingo boards. The Residents love to play Bingo and socialize with their friends. Enjoy the pictures of our Bingo time.

After nineteen years San Carlos Elms is changing the look of the interior of the building. We are starting with the third floor and working our way down to the first floor, each floor with its own look. Thanks to all the great workers in the building, the residents, family members and staff for being so understanding it has been an exciting process to see the new buildings form take shape. We all look forward to the finished project and look forward to share it with everyone. This is a great picture showing the new colors with a hint of the old rose color on the left.  

Last night we enjoyed a walk to the Farmer's Market on Laurel St. We nibbled on some of our favorite fruits before listening to the live music at the park. After we were done with our appetizers and dancing it was time for dinner. We had a wonderful time laughing and eating a magnificent meal at Piacere's right on Laurel St.      Helen showed off her moves when the music started. Nelly had a few moves too.   All smiles when the music comes on. Shirley always enjoys a glass of white wine with dinner. Mabel and Sid had an interesting conversation, but we all went around the table telling a good joke or two. Thank you Piacere's for a lovely evening.

The Residents at San Carlos Elms Memory Program are always socializing in one activity or another. It could be outside on the patio with a glass of lemon aide with a friend. Inside for a party.  With a talented violinist. Painting. Ring toss with a volunteer friend. Hoops with friends. What ever the activities of the day may be, Curley agrees we are all exhausted by the end of the day.

Today we had massage therapist Becky Emerson lecture on "The Simple Science Behind the Magic of Massage". She invited another massage therapist with her, Monica Zamora to help her with the demonstrations. They talked about the many indisputable benefits of positive touch. Before the lecture each Resident received a raffle ticket. Then, at the end of the lecture Becky and Monica raffled off four free massages. Becky and Monica brought in quite a crowd. The room was full before the talk was over. The raffle for the free massages helped bring in the crowd. Becky gave some positive touch to the Residents on a massage chair. The Activity Director, Kathleen was happy to call out the 4 winners for the free massages. Dorothy was one of the winners.   She received a little sample one today.   Ruth was also a lucky winner.   Anita didn't win the raffle, however she loved her m...
