Happy New Year from San Carlos Elms

We enjoyed a nice party here at San Carlos Elms to ring in 2013. We had music, cake, sparkling cider, each others company and for the finale the San Carlos Elms 2012 yearbook.

Some residents enjoyed signing one another's yearbook.

Other residents, Boris & Irene certainly dressed for the occasion.

Rosemary and Henry had fun too.

All the residents enjoyed themselves.
Looking forward to next year.
Check out the year book.

Crafting at The Elms

During the month of December we had a lot of fun crafting different things, like ordainment's for our tree, and wreaths for our door.

Irene made this one for a battery flamed candle she has in her apartment. She did a beautiful job.

Barbara, Grace and Caroline did a wonderful job getting their wreaths done to fit their personalities.

Thank You YOCA for Caroling at San Carlos Elms

YOCA, (Youth Organization Chinese Americans), came caroling for our residents the other day, just before dinner. It was wonderful to see how many residents enjoyed this group of young adults taking the time from their busy holiday schedule to sing for them.
Thank you Sarah and YOCA for setting this up and hope to see you at The Elms again soon.

68th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge at San Francisco

We have a resident at San Carlos Elms whose husband served in The Battle of the Bulge and wanted to remember him and his service by attending the anniversary.

When Grace sat down she was approached by, Honorary Consul General of Belgium, Ms. Rita Bral, who presented her with a pin that had the Belgium flag and United States flag on it.

Grace had never see the rock dedicated to The Battle of the Bulge that was dedicated back in August 1996.

We want to thank the men and woman who are still here that have served for us.
We would also like to honor the over 80,000 that risk their lives for our freedom.

San Carlos Elms had their Holiday Party on Friday. We even had Santa Clause take time out of his busy schedule to come in and say hi to everyone. We had great food, music, decorations and families visiting from out of town for this festive occasion.
The staff did a great job presenting the resident volunteer gifts to all our residents who help with; calling Bingo, keeping the Library in order, leading Bible Studies, and Welcome Committee, just to name a few.
Alyce Bishop leaded the pack with 195 volunteer hours this year!!! Way to go Alyce!!!

San Carlos Elms Memory Program Celebrating the Holidays

Our Memory Program celebrated with a Holiday Party this past Friday with their loved ones. They had wonderful decorations, food, music and of course each other.
By the afternoon rolled around our local girl scout troop came in to sing carols with the residents. When the girls were done, they each gave a resident a bell necklace they were wearing while they were performing to the residents. They also had some cookies and drinks with the residents.
All and all, a long and lovely day in the Memory Program.

Tree Trimming Social at San Carlos Elms

This afternoon the residents had a great time, laughing, sharing stories of Christmas past, and of course decorating the tree that some had helped in picking out.
We had eggnog, cookies, and plenty of holiday music to get us in the mood.
All the residents had a job, they helped put the ornaments on the tree, untangled the hooks, or spotted places in the tree that needed an ornament.

San Carlos Elms Residents Love Their Sports

We were happy to find out that one of our residents was the winner of the PigskinPick 'em Contest.
When I asked Katherine how she felt she said, "I can't wait to see what I do next week."
Congratulations Katherine!!!
