San Carlos Elms Residents Receive an Education on Hospice Care

Rabbi Hugh from VITAS Innovative Hospice Care came in this afternoon to educate our Residents and family members on Hospice Care.
When asked, most Residents see Hospice Care as the end of life. When in actuality Hospice Care is a type of care and philosophy of care that focuses on the palliation of a chronically ill, terminally ill or seriously ill patient's pain and symptoms, and attending to their emotional and spiritual needs.
 

Our Residents left Rabbi Hugh's lecture today well informed and happy to understand Hospice Care.

 San Carlos Elms was excited and honored to be apart of the Peninsula Multifaith Coalition again this year.  We were worried how it was going to all pan out, but thanks to a fantastic group of leaders and volunteers it was a huge success!!! We started the morning with an opening ceremony on Zoom celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, featuring guest speakers Rep Jackie Speier , Senator Josh Becker ,and Rev Lorrie Owens  President of San Mateo NAACP . Once we all had our history lesson and the power of community through the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. it was time to get to work.  Cards were created for all of our residents and magazines were donated too. Volunteers created and donated beautiful bouquets of flowers.   They are out spreading cheer for both our Residents and Staff. Thank you Peninsula Multifaith Coalition , we hope we can meet in person next year, but what a wonderful job you all did!!!
